Republic of Ireland midfielder Josh Cullen has joined Anderlecht.

The 24-year old has left West Ham, signing a three-year contract with the Jupiler League side.

Cullen has two Ireland caps to his name, but wasn't involved in the squad that's gathered ahead of Thursday's Euro 2020 playoff with Slovakia.

His last involvement with the Hammers was being named in the side for their Carabao Cup 3rd round tie at Arsenal, before being hastily withdrawn having tested positive for COVID-19.

Cullen made just 10 senior appearances for the Premier League side, but it was successive seasons on-loan at Charlton Athletic on which his reputation's been built.

"Josh is a midfielder who combines great running ability with grit and intensity," Anderlecht sporting director Peter Verbeke said.

"He is good on the ball, strong in the tackle, has a good long ball and is known for his winning mentality and dedication. A real team player."

Cullen isn't the only midfielder leaving the London Stadium on deadline day.

Jack Wilshere has been released by West Ham following an injury-blighted spell at the club. Since joining in 2018, the former England international has made just 19 appearances in claret and blue.

The 28-year old's standing with the West Ham hierarchy was unlikely to have been helped by his reaction to the sale of Grady Diangana to West Brom.

Writing on Instagram, Wilshere said, "Go and do your thing in a club that respects you. Big player with a big future."

He had echoed the sentiments of club captain Mark Noble, who went further in voicing his disappointment at Diangana's departure.

Confirming his leaving of West Ham on social media, Wilshere claimed he's been fit for the last eight months, but hasn't been given a chance by David Moyes.

The former Arsenal midfielder says he's still "incredibly hungry, ambitious and desperate to play football".
