The Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral is appealing to the public to help raise the funds needed to replace the roof of St Patrick's Cathedral.
It was last replaced over 150 years ago during a major restoration of the monument, led by Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness.
The cost of replacing all 12,000 slates, said to be in a 'perilous condition, is €9,000,000.
The cathedral has raised 5 million, but needs a further three or four million in donations in order to meet its target.
The cathedral has stood on the site in Dublin 8 since the year 1191.
Not only is it a place of worship, the national monument is the third most visited tourist attraction in Dublin.
