Another long weekend is upon us, bringing another chance to look back on some of our best shows from the past year. So join us this Sunday as we take an easy and enjoyable look back at our discussions on the great composer, Richard Strauss, and probably the greatest Italian poet, Dante Alighieri.

We look first at ‘the Supreme Poet’ and his ‘Divine Comedy’. Join Patrick this Sunday at 7pm as he looks back at the life and legacy of ‘the Father of the Italian language’. Why is he so well remembered today? What impact did he have on the world during his life? And how did he shape modern Italy?

At 8pm we turn from Italian poetry to look at the music of the German composer Richard Strauss. Regarded as one of the greatest living composers during his lifetime he was criticised by later musicologists as too conservative. Yet today his legacy remains a powerful and profound one. Was Strauss ‘the greatest musical figure who has lived in this century’? Or ‘a first-class second-rate composer’? And what was life like for this artistic genius under Nazi rule?
