I will sing to you of a lovely place
And it’s there I would like to be
Where I could spend my time away,
In merriment and glee.
The maidens fair I do declare
It’s with them I would like to go
And have a stroll along those banks
Where the Mulkear river flows.
-James Ryan, Where the Mulkear River Flows
Last year 'Talking History' took a short holiday from our regular Dublin broadcasts to visit Galway and see what it would be like broadcasting from another of Ireland's wonderful cities. That experience was so wonderful that we have decided to take to the road again in search of more adventure.and excitement. This time we are going to head to where the Shannon starts to meet the sea and where history seeps out from the walls. Come join us this Sunday as 'Talking History' takes a trip down to Limerick, Ireland's City of Culture 2014.
Preparations for this very special show have been going on for some time now and the anticipation has the team terribly excited. We have been giving out tickets to our show for the past month but we still have some limited space available if anyone is interested in spending an enjoyable Sunday evening with a bunch of historians in No 1 Pery Square in Limerick’s Georgian Quarter. The more, as they say, the merrier, so please do e-mail us on talkinghistory@newstalk.ie if you are interested in free tickets to this Sunday’s event.
I would try to tell you a little about the history of Limerick city but I could never do it justice. So why don’t you instead listen back as 'Talking History' devotes two hours of broadcast time to the history of this wonderful city. With a panel of the very best experts and historians ‘Talking History’ will bring alive the story of Limerick city and county from its earliest beginnings through the coming of the Vikings and Brian Boru, the infamous sieges, its revolution during the Georgian era, and its modern history right up to today.
