For many people, they’ll never need the services of our lady’s hospital for sick children in Crumlin.

However, for those parents whose children end up needing medium to long term care, accommodation can prove very difficult, especially when they live far outside Dublin.

They want to be with their child as much as possible, but they might also have other children who need taking care of at home.

The Ronald McDonald house is located on the grounds of Crumlin children’s hospital, and our reporter Aisling Moore has been out there to find out what they provide for families.

Aisling asked a mother named Stacey about the duration and conditions of their stay in the Ronald McDonald House:

Stacey mentioned there about bringing her daughter up for visits. The ability to bring other children to the hospital is hugely important. A mother named Sinead told Aisling of the implications of having a sick child on other children:

A father named Martin explained to Aisling how the support of the other parents in the Ronald McDonald House helped him greatly and provided advice to him:

Mother and daughter Joanne and Elaine spoke to Aisling about their living spaces within the Ronald McDonald House. Joanne is waiting on a heart transplant and so her mother Elaine has opted to be with Elaine at all times:
