Pest control companies have revealed they're 'inundated' with calls about rats in badly built home extensions.
Many of the calls are from people who had renovations done in the Celtic Tiger years.
Trevor Hayden is from 'Complete Pest Control'. He claims the rats are often large in size and the rise in call-outs in the past 12 months has been ‘unbelievable’.

In one case, pest controllers took up a piece of wooden floor in a house extension and found an old man hole underneath through which rats had burrowed.
Mr Hayden said his company has been forced to use more traps to catch rats as many have become immune to poisons used in the industry.
