We have enough money to run an effective health service, but we are spending it on the wrong areas - according to an expert on education.
Ed Walsh, founding President of the University of Limerick, says the government needs to reallocate €2bn from the health service budget to employ more doctors.
He says there are very few family doctors in general practice, about half the OECD norm. That's despite the fact that 101,000 people work for the HSE - only 8,333 of them are doctors though.
Walsh is warning that small family doctors are going bankrupt because of the overheads they face.
