Police in the North have arrested a man in connection with the death of former IRA commander Gerard 'Jock' Davison.
House to house inquiries were being carried out as part of investigations into the fatal shooting.
Gerard 'Jock' Davison was gunned down on his way to work in a community centre at about 9am yesterday morning.
The PSNI does not believe dissident Republicans were behind the shooting.
He was previously linked with the murder of Robert McCartney, who was stabbed outside a Belfast bar in 2005 but was never charged.
Sinn Féin has described the fatal shooting as "shocking" and "brutal".
The one-time IRA commander was a prominent supporter of Sinn Féin throughout the peace process.
His uncle, Brendan 'Ruby' Davison, was murdered by loyalists in the same area in 1988.
The Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan has condemned the shooting as a cold-blooded murder.
Mr Flanagan says it was particularly heinous as it took place in a residential area, where people were going to work and bringing children to school.
He is urging anyone with information to contact the PSNI.
Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams said: "This brutal act will be condemned by all sensible people - there can be no place for such actions."
"I would urge anyone with any information to bring that forward to the PSNI."
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey said Mr Davison was well known in the area.
