A studio where Dublin councillor Mannix Flynn has an office has been attacked by vandals apparently protesting the new busking by-laws.

The window of the premises on Ormond Quay in the city centre was smashed and graffiti was smeared on the door and walls.

The artist and independent councillor was in the building at the time of the attack in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Councillor Flynn says some of the graffiti made reference to abuse he suffered in an industrial school, while other messages referred directly to the busking by-laws.

He spoke to the Pat Kenny Show about the incident, and you can listen back below:

Under the measures, which are expected to come into effect within weeks, street performers will require a permit.

A busking permit will cost €30 - but those who use amplifiers will have to pay an additional €60 a year.

A noise limit of 80 decibels will be enforced and buskers will have to finish up by 11pm.

Dublin city councillors voted in favour of new laws earlier this week.
