Toshiba have an extremely impressive set up here at CES but it is impossible to walk through their area without noticing Aiko Chihira.
Aiko is Toshiba's communication android aka a robot. The device looks and moves like a human, but is simply the product of excellent engineering and an algorithm.
She is unquestionably eye-catching. The robot blinks, smiles and communications with hand gestures.
Toshiba say their goal is to continue to develop this model into a sophisticated social robot by 2020. If they are successful it is thought that the devices could act as a companion for the elderly, offer telecounselling and fulfill the role of some receptionists.
