Gardaí have confirmed they were called out to a public order incident in south Dublin, after a convicted paedophile was set upon by a group of people.
The incident happened at 9pm on Wednesday night in Irishtown, when the man was beaten by a mob after he left a local pub.
Danny Ward was placed on the sex offenders register for life, after being convicted of raping a child.
He was thought to be living in the Ringsend area of the city, but has since been moved to another location by the gardaí for his own safety.
Gardaí were called to the scene and Mr Ward was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with minor injuries.
No arrests were made.
