Pat began by discussing the current US shutdown. The last time the government shut down was during Mr. Clinton's Presidency, in winter 1995-1996 and occurred primarily over funding for medicare. Pat asked President Clinton if the current shutdown resonated with him:
When asked if he would agree that some of the Republican reasoning for blocking Obama's healthcare stemmed from racism, President Clinton said
"I think that a lot of them hated me, and one of their former Congressmen asked if he could come by and personally apologies to me. He said 'we hated you so much.'"
Pat asked President Clinton for his reaction to the claims that Ireland is a "tax haven":
