A garda has been arrested as part of an investigation into the leaking of information to the media.

It follows a probe by senior gardaí into complaints raised by the Roma report by the Children's Ombudsman last July.

That report was launched to examine the garda handling of the cases of two blonde Roma children, who were removed from their families two years ago on suspicion that they had been abducted.

The report by then-Ombudsman Emily Logan was highly critical of information that emerged in the media the day after the incident.

The report concluded information in a written media report most likely came from inside the Garda Síochana.
