Veteran broadcaster Gay Byrne turned 80-years-old today and while he celebrates with his family in Donegal, we take a sentimental look back at his monumental television and radio career.
He was a Friday night staple in every home when he hosted the world's longest running TV chat show, The Late Late Show as well as having a long career on Irish radio to boot.
He interviewed some of the most famous and controversial guests at the time as well as telling some amazing Irish stories from regular 'Joe Soaps'. Can you recognise any of these voices from over the years?
U2's Bono once said that "if you grow up in Ireland, you're never going to be as famous as Gay Byrne".
This clip will bring old memories flooding back to anyone who remembers The Late Late Show with Gay Byrne in it's original glory.
The infamous presenter spoke to Pat Kenny this morning saying he was overwhelmed with the well wishes from friends and the public alike and claimed he can't believe he's 80: "I certainly don't feel 80 but I certainly don't feel 42 either."
When asked about his most memorable moments of his 40-year stint as presenter of The Late Late show, Mr Byrne said he had recently been reminded of one of the most shocking moments on the show when he phoned a viewer to take part in a competition.
Pat asked Mr Byrne about having any regrets throughout his career, guests he wished he hadn't interviewed or moments he might be embarrassed about.
Gay said that the only phone call he received from a concerned Director General was when they found out he was due to interview two ex-nuns about lesbianism in a convent setting.
