A new book is set to give more insights into the world of Graham Dwyer, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of Dublin childcare worker Elaine O'Hara.

It took the jury seven and a half hours to find the Foxrock man guilty, after a nine week trial with some of the most graphic and disturbing evidence ever to come before a court.

He is set to appeal his conviction.

Special correspondent with the Irish Independent, Paul Williams, has written 'Almost the Perfect Murder' - looking at the plotting behind the events, and how it was almost missed.

"It was a totally unprecedented case in the history of criminal justice", he told the Pat Kenny Show here on Newstalk.

"It was the way in which Elaine was selected by a predator who stalked her...manipulated her, exploited her in the most malevolent way and then planned very carefully - and we would say over 17 months he was planning this - and choreographed her disappearance to make it look like suicide".

"It was that level of focused planning that made this so horrific", he said.

"We know that at least as far back as perhaps 2007, that he had met her through an internet site dedicated to BDSM...and that relationship - such as whatever it was at the time - finished".

"And he touches base with her again and this is where the story starts - he touches base with her in March of 2011".

"He buys a phone and literally within two hours of putting the SIM into it, he's texting her".

"So he decides - and it's very fair and reasonable to assume that when he bought that telephone on that day in March 2011, ultimately he was going to murder Elaine O'Hara", he added.
