Robert O'Connor lost his life less than a year ago. He was just 35 and acted both on screen and on stage.
However, he battled drug and alcohol abuse for quite a long time.
He was the son of Charlie O'Connor, South Dublin County Councillor and former Fianna Fail TD, who is now a board member on a new campaign to stop out of control drinking, which will be launched shortly.
Today, Charlie joined Pat Kenny to discuss the death of his son, stating that on the evening he died, he had seen him and that he thought he was fine: "We would have had a very close relationship. Yes, he was a challenge and if he was sitting here today Pat, he would tell you that drink was his demon.
"He struggled with alcohol.
"I saw him that evening at about 6 o'clock and I would claim he was fine. Sometime that evening somebody went to him,he accessed drugs and he died.
He also discussed the campaign: "This is about, not saying don't drink but try to do it in moderation and it's something I feel strongly about and Robert I suspect would want me to."
On the death of his son he stated: "To some extent, I need to know answers.
"I miss my son. We had a good relationship."
"I hope people right around the country hear about this campaign"
