John Joe Nevin's coach believes the boxer was simply 'in the wrong place at the wrong time' when he was attacked on Saturday.
The Olympian (25) has undergone one surgery already, and is due to have another operation today, after his leg was fractured in two places during the attack.
There are plans to bring him to the US for rehabilitation as he battles to get back in the ring before the end of the year.
