The results are in for #KennyCauses:
- 1st Prize €12,000 - My Canine Companion, Cork
- 2nd Prize €5,000 - The Good Shepherd Centre, Kilkenny
- 3rd Prize €3,000 - G.R.A.S.P. Life Foundation. Sligo, Leitrim & Donegal
Over 90 charities took part in #KennyCauses, a nationwide initiative to promote local fundraising events in association with The Pat Kenny Show on Newstalk 106-108fm.
Local charity organisations around Ireland nominated their cause, with €1 being donated to The #KennyCauses Fund for every nomination sent throughout the whole month of October.
Our panel of judges included Newstalk CEO Gerard Whelan, Global Village presenter and social activist Dil Wickremasinghe and Newstalk’s Station Editor Garrett Harte. They had the difficult task of choosing the final three causes who would receive a share of the €20,000 prize money.
Public voting closed today (Monday November 4th) at 10am with Pat Kenny announcing the results on the show at 12pm.

My Canine Companion - Cork
My Canine Companion is a Cork-based cause which provides highly trained and skilled assistance dogs to people with disabilities, especially autism.
The dogs are trained to the European standard Assistance Dogs Europe (ADEu) at a cost of just over €10,000 each. The training process takes approximately two years, from the dog’s birth.
To date My Canine Companion has placed 26 fully trained Assistance Dogs with families across Ireland, with more than 70 dogs in various stages of training.

The Good Shepherd Centre - Kilkenny
Operating since 1989, The Good Shepherd Centre works with men in Kilkenny experiencing, or at risk or becoming homeless. Support and resettlement services are offered with the aim of returning people to sustained independent living.
The Centre concentrates on the encouragement of clients to take control of every dimension of their own lives including accommodation, learning and training, self and personal development, social and recreational life, employment, medication control, relationships and personal responsibility.

G.R.A.S.P. Life Foundation - Leitrim, Sligo & Donegal
A suicide prevention charity operating a helpline at 087 4188053 or 086 6824760.
The group’s mission is to support those experiencing emotional distress or having suicidal ideation. They achieve this through professional therapeutic counselling and support by psychotherapists trained in the area of suicide prevention.
The Leitrim-based cause also plan to open a centre covering Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal. The centre will provide a specialised counselling service and programme for those having suicidal thoughts. The centre will have a team of accredited and trained psychotherapists and two medical practitioners.
