A former Catholic archbishop, who resigned over breaking his vow of chastity, is suing RTÉ for defamation.

Richard Burke (66) from Clonmel in Co Tipperary may give evidence at his case today.

He alleges he was wrongly depicted as a paedophile in the 2011 'Prime Time Investigates: Mission to Prey' programme on May 23rd in 2011.

Representing Mr Burke, Jack Fitzgerald SC told the High Court yesterday that Mr Burke had an intimate relationship with Dolores Atwood - who featured in the programme - but not when she was underage.

RTÉ denies defamation.

Irish Times reporter Mary Carolan is following the case, and says Richard Burke may give evidence later.

She spoke earlier to the Pat Kenny Show here on Newstalk.
