With the election imminent Irish politics looks like it now stands on the verge of several historic events.
The collapse of Labour and the rise of the Independents it appears this vote could give us one of the most diverse Dáil’s ever, while the success of Sinn Féin in recent years could be set to reach its peak in a few weeks time.
Simultaneously offering a new kind of politics and burdened by a darker, longer, history that any other party – Sinn Féin find themselves in a unique position as they look to maximise their gains of recent years when the vote finally comes around.
So how is the new generation – the generation perhaps more concerned with left-wing economic policies that 32 counties – dealing with the legacies of the old? And what do they mean for the party’s future?
Newstalk’s Richard Chambers spent some time with several of Sinn Féin’s new generation – and spoke with them about homelessness, the fall of Labour, and dealing with Sinn Féin’s past.
