Minister Leo Varadkar told Shane Coleman on the Pat Kenny show this morning that although his party haven't decided their position on repealing the Eighth Amendment, he would personally be against deleting the amendment entirely.
The Minister said that he wouldn't like to see all protection for the unborn removed from the Constitution but that he would be open to seeing the amendment modified so that it would allow for terminations in certain cases, like in cases of fatal foetal abnormality.
Minister Varadkar said that there should be a debate about the issue following the next General Election, again reiterating that it would not be revisited again in the lifetime of this Government.
The Minister also spoke at length about the ongoing trolley crisis across the country, claiming that it has been difficult to put a task force in place for the issue and remains a big problem but that it is being tackled.
He also went on to discuss the right to die cases stating that he can understand in individual cases why people would not want to see a loved one suffer.
