Lucinda Creighton told Pat Kenny this morning that the current abortion legislation is "deeply flawed".

The former Fine Gael junior minister told Newstalk that the problems revolving around the legislation were predictable: "We had a government who was intent on ramming this through, of not accepting any amendments, of not even engaging or listening to any of the ideas or the suggestions that were put forward by those who opposed the legislation.

"Sadly, all of this was entirely predictable and was predicted on the floor of the Dáil."

Creighton resigned her position as the European Affairs Minister in July of last year following her vote against the abortion legislation which saw her expelled from the Fine Gael parliamentary party.

However, the Taoiseach insisted the issue of abortion won't be revisited in the lifetime of this government.

She also stated that joining the Dail's technical group is an 'exciting prospect'. Creighton has applied to join the group, and the final decision is down to the Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett.

As the Dail returns from its summer break, there's speculation that the other five so-called 'Reform Alliance' TD's could follow her lead, bringing the technical group membership to 21.
