A Cavan woman who was attacked by the man who went on to murder Sylvia Roche Kelly is inviting Alan Shatter to talk to her about her case.

Jerry McGrath was released on station bail after assaulting Mary Lynch in Virginia, 8 months before the Limerick killing in December 2007.

She maintains she never got the chance to give a victim impact statement, despite repeatedly contacting Gardai in Bailieboro.

Today in the Dail, Minister Alan Shatter said she should have had the opportunity to be in the court when her attacker was sentenced, but there was 'a failure to advise her to be present'.

However Mary Lynch told Newstalk's Pat Kenny she knew the hearing was scheduled, but two days beforehand, she was told otherwise - and she wants to know why:


Meanwhile, the Dáil is hearing questions on Justice Minister Alan Shatter's handling of allegations of garda misconduct.
