Coming up on The Picture Show:
The nominations for the 87th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, with Ireland represented in the 'Best Animated Feature' category.
Tomm Moore’s Song of the Sea, which was primarily produced in Cartoon Saloon's Kilkenny studio, is nominated for the Oscar. It's Tom's second nod, having previously been nominated in 2010 for The Secret of Kells. Tomm joins us on the show tonight to talk about the lure of Irish folklore and his "hybrid" procedure for producing beautifully rich animation.
'A Most Violent Year', starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, is due to be released in Irish cinema's next weekend. The film tells the story of an ambitious immigrant and his family trying to protect their home heating oil business against an accumulation of treacherous competitors. Director J.C. Chandor joins us on the show tonight to talk about depicting a story set in New York City's most violent year, 1981.
We’ll also be reviewing Clint Eastwood’s impressive American Sniper, Testament Of Youth, Wild and Whiplash.
The Picture Show, tonight at 6pm, on Newstalk 106-108 FM.
