On The Picture Show this week:

Director and writer Gerard Barrett joins Philip Molloy on The Picture Show tonight to discuss Glassland, a film set in Dublin which tells the story of a young taxi driver (Jack Reynor) who gets caught up in the city’s criminal underworld while trying to save his mother from addiction.

Barrett, age 27 made his directorial debut in 2012 with his feature film Pilgrim Hill which won the Irish Times Best Film of the Galway Film Festival. Barrett has won a number of awards, including, the Rising Star award at the IFTAs, Bingham Ray Best New Irish Talent Award at the Galway Film Fleadh, and Rising Star of the BFI London Film Festival.

Glassland received glowing reviews at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year which has since earned it unanimous critical acclaim. The film features performances from Oscar nominated Toni Collette, Jack Reynor, Michael Smiley and Will Poulter.

Glassland is available in cinemas now.

Midnight Run is an American action comedy starring Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. The movie was released on July 20th 1998 and grossed $81.6 million worldwide.

It follows Bounty hunter Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) as he searches for bail jumper and former Mafia accountant, Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas (Charles Grodin) who embezzled millions of dollars from the mob in Vegas. Jack must find “The Duke” In order to collect his $100,000 fee.  However, the Mafia and the FBI have other ideas and the two are forced on a cross-country trip during which they build up a strange friendship.
