That looks pretty spectacular. It is the second trailer for the Disney rescue adventure The Finest Hours which is due to open in the states at the end of January and hopefully we’ll see it soon after.
Directed by Australian filmmaker Craig Gillespie – it is a long way from his Lars and the Real Girl – it stars Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Eric Bana, Ben Foster and Holliday Grainger in the story of a famous coastguard mission off the coast of Cape Cod in the winter of 1952.
Two WWII-era tanker ships split in half in a vicious storm leaving the crew members with just hours to live before the ships went down. The $85m movie focuses on the attempts to save the crew of the 503 foot SS Pendleton which is considered the greatest small boat rescue in the history of the US Coastguard.
The rights to the book, The Finest Hours, were acquired by Disney in 2009 and it was initially intended that German director Robert Schwentke would make it but he dropped out to do Insurgent, the second movie in the Divergent franchise, with Gillespie taking over.
The film was shot at a variety of ocean and shipyard locations in Massachusetts.
