You don't associate the writer of the gritty thriller Eastern Promises or the innovative Locke with comedy. Then you might not associate Steven Knight with the gothic thriller Shutter Island (he wrote a draft) or period fantasy like The Seventh Son or a Cold War biography like Pawn Sacrifice either. The one thing that has, in fact, distinguished Knight's output since Dirty Pretty Things in 2002 has been its diversity. He has also created Peaky Blinders and the internationally renowned TV quiz programme Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Besides, Knight's new release Burnt is described by the publicity material as a comedy/drama. Bradley Cooper stars as Adam Jones, an up-and-coming chef whose drug and drink use leads to him losing his Paris restaurant. Now he is trying to rebuild his career in London with the hope of eventually returning to the French capital and gaining a third Michelin star. It is that classic tale of one man’s search for redemption but it has a romantic core (Sienna Miller co-stars) and, looking at the trailer, you probably won't be surprised to learn that Cooper researched his part by working with kitchen divo, Gordon Ramsey.

Burnt, which has also been called ‘Chef’ and ‘Adam Jones’ at various stages, opens here on Friday week (Nov 6th) and Knight’s Pawn Sacrifice, a retelling of Bobby Fischer’s 1972 superpower clash with Boris Spassky at the World Chess Championships starring Tobey Maguire, will be out on 4th Dec.

Meanwhile Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller are on The Picture Show on Newstalk this Saturday (31st October) at 6pm on Saturday.

Philip Molloy presents The Picture Show every Saturday on Newstalk from 6pm. Listen back to the podcasts here.
