With Netflix looking to expand its reach with bigger budget and all-star cast movies, the first trailer for War Machine showcases a wry black comedy about the war in Afghanistan.

Brad Pitt, channelling Mike Pence, plays four-star general Glen McMahon, sent in by the US to bring an end to the ongoing conflict of George W Bush’s war.

But from the get-go he finds himself forced to explain some very simple truths to the trigger happy soldiers on the ground.

“We can’t help them and kill them at the same time,” Pitt spits out. “It just ain’t humanly possible.”

The film is inspired b the book The Operators: The Wild & Terrifying Inside Story of America’s War in Afghanistan, written by the late Rolling Stone journalist Michael Hastings. The film version is produced by Pitt and directed by Animal Kingdom’s David Michôd.

War Machine is set for release on May 26th and co-star Oscar winners Tilda Swinton and Sir Ben Kingsley, as well as Topher Grace and ‘Brat Pack’ alumnus Anthony Michael Hall.
