Despite the near constant glut of reboots, remakes, and sequels that have come to dominate Hollywood’s output, sometimes the idea of a follow-up is too hard to turn down. To wit, the first teaser has arrived for Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to Ridley Scott’s much-loved 1982 take on Philip K Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a movie whose difficult production was plagued by studio interference and on-set arguments.

The Harrison Ford-starring original, now considered a classic of science fiction cinema, split audiences and critics alike when it debut, earning a relatively disappointing box office given the names involved.

The original cast pales in comparison to the names attached to next year’s 2049, which shows us that the neon-lit LA of the future, already looking pretty grim in 2019, isn’t doing much better. Ryan Gosling stars as an LAPD officer named K who attempts to find Deckard (Ford), the original Blade Runner, the name given to special officers capable of identifying androids from real people.

With Canadian direction Denis Villeneuve at the helm, whose Arrival was one of 2016’s best, Blade Runner 2049 also stars Robin Wright, Jared Leto, and Dave Bautista. The film is set for release in October next year. Take a look at the teaser in full below:
