At a time when the future of the Bond franchise seems mostly comatose and Jason Bourne’s much hyped reboot resulted in a spectacularly average film experience, at least there’s still a lot of fun to be had with Matthew Vaughn.
The British director of X-Men: First Class and Kick Ass made a splash in 2014 with the riotously fun Kingsman, the story of a down-on-his-heel man who learns the tricks of impeccably tailored secret service work.
Starring Taron Egerton as Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin, Vaughn surrounded the actor with a big name cast, including Oscar-winners Colin Firth and Michael Caine, as well as beloved character actors Samuel L Jackson and Mark Hamill.
Something of a surprise hit, Kingsman has also become the first Vaughn film the director to which the direct has made a sequel, with his ability to attract a big name cast reaching Coen Brothers’ level.
While not immediately obvious from the teaser trailer just released online, Kingsman: The Golden Circle will see Eggsy and what remains of the British spy network forced across the pond to team up with their American counterparts, the Statesmen.
Joining Egerton and a returning Firth are Oscar-winners Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, and Jeff Daniels, with Channing Tatum thrown in for good measure.
Co-written by his long-time collaborator Jane Goldman, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is released on September 22nd. Take a look at the trailer below:
