"Everything has its time," says Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli, of his band's time apart, between 2001 and 2011. "We had been together for twelve years, played 1,500 gigs...I was burnt out".

Dulli spoke to Tom Dunne this week ahead of the band's performance at the Academy on February 2nd.

The Whigs are considered one of the great American '90s bands, having signed to Sub Pop alongside Nirvana. The band has recently released its first new album in over a decade, Do to the Beast.

The band performed their reunion tour in 2012. It wasn't until 2013 however that they decided to return to the studio.

"In 2013 we played a show with Usher in Texas and it was after the Usher show that we decided to go back in the studio and see what happened".
