"An acoustic power trio of guitars" is what Al Stewart promises when he and his band perform Year of the Cat in Vicar Street on April 28th.

Despite Stewart being considered one of the great lyricists, his original approach to Year of the Cat was perhaps counter intuitive.

"I actually recorded all the music before I recorded any words," he says.

He explained during the interview that this approach gave him the opportunity to sit with the music.

"I would record the music and then take it home and I would wake up in the morning and say 'what does this suggest to me?'"

But what is Year of the Cat all about?

"Someone once said that great art should hover on the edge of consciousness. In other words, you shouldn't know exactly what it's about, there should be an element of mystery going on. And Year of the Cat? Even I am not totally sure what it's about".
