Things are about to get a lot cooler for hipsters with the introduction of portable record players.

German design agency Rocket & Wink has teased a range of portable record players that seem to good to be true.

“The Rawman 3000 produces such a big, rich sound, that it only can be compared to a very elaborate and expensive component stereo record player system. Yet, it´s so small that you can take it anywhere you go.”

Don’t get your hopes up though, these players won’t be hitting the market anytime soon.

Album of The Week: The Strypes - Little Victories

Cavan's finest are set to release the 'difficult' second album Little Victories on Friday August 21st.

Tracks such as 'Cab Fare Home' highlights the strong influences of the Arctic Monkeys and modfather Paul Weller. All they need is BBC Radio 1 to put it on high rotation and everything would be rosy in the garden.

Take a listen:

Gig of The Week: The Drays

Previously featured as Album of The Week a few weeks back, The Drays play The Leeson Lounge in Dublin on Thursday 20th and Cleere's in Kilkenny on Thursday 27th August.

A not to be missed, considering the band don't get to play very many gigs. The one in Leeson Lounge is free in but in a pioneering move, utilising a new technology, there'll be no cover charge but a hat will be passed around which may or may not accept coins!

I've been there once myself and to be standing on stage while a hat is being passed around is not nice! Artist are just not supposed to be exposed to that level of commercial reality.

'Sorrell Hill' taken from The Drays' album Look Away Down Collins Avenue is a particular highlight.

Interviews this week:

Tune in to an interview this coming Monday with a university professor who is spending a year living like David Bowie - to gain a better understanding of the pop icon's mind and work.

Will Brooker, who teaches film and cultural studies at Kingston University, is spending a few months at a time experiencing specific moments of the star’s five-decade career – from adopting Bowie’s eating habits and poring over the literature he read, to visiting the same places as the English singer-songwriter.

And we also had the inimitable English singer, actor and composer Petula Clark on the show recently - not to be missed!
