Picks of the week

Neil Gaiman's Likely Stories, Thursday, Sky Arts, 9pm

The first two of four adapted short stories, 'Foreign Parts' and 'Feeders & Eaters', by author Neil Gaiman, and they look like skin crawlers to say the least. Jarvis Cocker has written the soundtrack too, which draws us right in.

 

Undercover: Inside Britain’s Children’s Services, Thursday, Channel 4, 10pm

Dispatches investigates Birmingham City Council's Children's Services, which was described by Ofsted's Chief Inspector as a national disgrace and has faced 27 serious case reviews and a death over the past 10 years. 

The Truth about Alcohol, Thursday, BBC1, 9pm

A&E doctor Javid Abdelmoneim assesses new evidence for the health risks posed by alcohol, with some fun experiments to find out the truth about why some people get drunk quicker than others, what's behind red wine's healthy reputation and if llining your stomach works.

The Disappearance, Saturday, BBC4, 9pm

In this new French drama set in Lyon, seventeen-year-old Lea Morel suddenly goes missing, and the investigating police find themselves facing a suspicious group of friends and family.

 

Online pick of the Week

Bloodline, Netflix, from Friday, second season

Season 2 of Bloodline sees the Rayburns struggle to hide an unthinkable crime and begin to unravel in the midst of mounting lies, betrayal, and paranoia.

 

Film of the week

Father of the Bride, Saturday, BBC2, 2pm

In this Oscar nominated comedy classic from 1950, a  middle-class lawyer's daughter Kay (Elizabeth Taylor) announces that she's getting married, turning her father's life on it's head.
