The Stranger on the Bridge, Monday, C4, 9pm (will be available on 4od)
On January 14, 2008, Jonny Benjamin went to Waterloo Bridge with the intention of taking his own life, but a stranger stopped and managed to talk him down. Jonny was subsequently taken to hospital by the police, and never had the chance to thank the Good Samaritan he named Mike. Years later, he launched the `Finding Mike' social-media campaign to track the man down, and it went viral. Jonny will finally meet Mike in this emotional documentary.
Firefighters, Tuesday, RTE1, 7pm Fighting fires, heart-stopping rescues, saving lives, whatever the emergency, wherever it happens, the brave men and women of Dublin Fire and Rescue are there to help the people of Dublin when they need them most... This documentary follows the tough lives of those who work in the fire service.
Shark, Thursday, BBC1, 8.55pm
Wildlife documentary venturing below the waves to examine the ocean predators' behaviour. This documentary hopes to emphasise the fact that the shark is an intelligent and complex creature and not just the monster that it is made out to be. No one quite does documentaries like the BBC. This promises to be a treat.
Lusitania - 18 Minutes that Changed the World, RTÉ1, 10.15pm
Docu-drama about the sinking of British ocean liner RMS Lusitania 11 miles off the southern coast of Ireland by a German U-boat on May 7, 1915, which resulted in the deaths of 1,198 passengers and crew and was a key factor in the US's entry into the First World War. The events of that day are brought to life using archive footage, photographs, documents, dramatic reconstructions and expert opinion by marine historians, as well as first-hand testimonies by survivors and the submarine captain
Britain's Greatest Generation, Friday, BBC2, 9pm
BBC Two’s landmark four-part series Britain’s Greatest Generation will celebrate the last survivors of the Second World War and their achievement in helping to win the war through a series of moving and personal interviews. Now in their nineties and hundreds, they are a generation who grew up in the shadow of the Great War, suffered through the Depression years, and fought long and hard for freedom.
The Joy of the Guitar Riff, Friday, BBC4, 9pm
The guitar riff is the DNA of rock 'n' roll, a double helix of repetitive simplicity and fiendish complexity on which its history has been built. From Chuck Berry through to the White Stripes, this documentarytraces the ebb and flow of the guitar riff over the last 60 years of popular music. With riffs and stories from an all-star cast including Brian May, Dave Davies, Hank Marvin, Joan Jett, Nile Rodgers, Tony Iommi, Robert Fripp, Johnny Marr, Nancy Wilson, Kevin Shields, Ryan Jarman, Tom Morello and many more.
