Online pick of the week

Werner Herzog, Into the Inferno - Netflix from October 28th

In this brand new documentary, filmmaker Werner Herzog and volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer explore some of the most well known volcanoes from around the world.

Picks of the week

The Young Pope, Thursday, Sky Atlantic, 9pm

In this new series, Jude Law stars as fictional Pope Pius XIII, the first American pontiff - charming, arrogant, uncompromising,  and aided by Sister Mary (Diane Keaton), the nun who took him in as an orphan.

Je t'aime: The Story of French Song with Petula Clark, Friday 28th Oct at 10pm on BBC Four

Serge Gainsbourg, Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Juliette Greco, Anna Karina and Jane Birkin, pioneers of the French chanson. Singer Petula Clark delves into the stories of the artists that best exemplify the genre.

Films of the week

The Babadook - Netflix

A word of advice from Tom - don't read a scary book to your child that has just showed up in your house out of nowhere, especially if the child already has an irrational fear of monsters lurking around his bedroom. Because maybe the child is right about the monsters. This is an absolutely fantastic movie, highly recommended for the season that's in it.

Curse of Frankenstein, Saturday, BBC2 1.35am

In this absolute classic horror from 1957, Baron Victor Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) has created a monster (Christopher Lee) from different parts of dead bodies. He recalls the story of the beast from the confines of a prison cell.
