Legendary American recording artist Candi Staton sat down with Tom Dunne to speak about her new album and remember the genesis of her remarkable career.
Her latest album is her 27th installment.

"I’ve lived every one of those songs on that record," she explained.
She also elaborated that she had written nine of the new songs from personal experience.
Rick Hall, of the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, gave Staton her big break.
"He started all this back in 1968...it was a personal triumph for me when he said ‘I’m going to sign you to a record deal’...I’d given up hope of ever being anything other than a mom. I had no hopes of ever becoming a worldwide-known entertainer. Thanks to Rick Hall, he came there”.
