This week, Oisin Davis, of Great Irish Beverages, reveals his take on the classic Irish Coffee.
Oisin says, "Coffee is obviously one of life's staples. It's as important to one's daily existence as clean air, three good meals and colour TV. There is only way that you can make a good coffee better and that happens when you add thick cream and Irish whiskey. Thanks to the global resurgence in cocktails and properly brewed coffee, the good ‘auld Irish coffee is making a comeback".
Ingredients
50 ml of Power's Gold
1 teaspoon of brown sugar
3/4 cup of 3FE arabica coffee
a sprinkling of cinnamon
a drop or two of nice vanilla essence
a grating of fresh nutmeg
fresh cream
2 teaspoons of Hennessy brandy
Method
Whip 150 ml of cream with the brandy and spices together until it's firm but not overly so.
Heat up your Irish coffee glass with boiling water. Pour it out and replace it with the coffee and sugar. Stir the sugar into the coffee until it's combined. Pour in the whiskey and then carefully place the cream on top with the use of the back of a tablespoon. Sláinte!
