On tonight's show, Oisin Davis, of Great Irish Beverages, joins Tom to make a Ginger Hot Whiskey.

Oisin says, "I often get people giving out to me saying that the syrups and other items I put into cocktails are too much hassle to make for themselves. My argument would be, that if you're having mates round the gaff, you won't mind putting some time in to make a half decent meal. So why not put a little care into the drinks as well? One such boozy activity that is actually very easy to pull off, is to make a ginger syrup. Not only will it spice up any punch, but it will instantly liven up any hot whiskey. I challenge anyone to not mess this one up, it's ridiculously easy!".

INGREDIENTS:

50 ml Powers
2 dashes of Angostura
20 ml ginger syrup
1 clove studded lemon slice

METHOD:

To make the syrup, chop 250g of fresh ginger. There's no need to peel it, just make sure it's washed and chopped. Add it to a blender with 250 g of caster sugar and 250 ml of boiling water. Fine strain it with a sieve and add it to a sterilised bottle or jar.

To make the drink, heat a hot whiskey glass with some hot water. Remove the water and add in the whiskey, bitters and syrup and stir it up. Top up with boiling water and garnish with the lemon.
