Each Thursday Oisin Davis, of Great Irish Beverages, recreates a cocktail from a classic movie. This week Oisin makes a Scotch Mist from the 1946 Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall vehicle 'The Big Sleep'.
Ingredients:
- 50 ml of good scotch like Glenlivet or Glenfiddich
- A fistful of crushed ice.
- A lemon twist
Oisin says, “Anyone who lives to 89 is most certainly worth a toast. But the recently deceased Lauren Bacall also had attributes other than longevity that deserve recognition. As an actress, she won a Tony, a Golden Globe and an honorary Oscar. She also managed to pen some exceptionally well received and awarded autobiographies and raise three children. It should also be pointed that she possessed the kind of voice that would always hit a very high 9 on the sultry-ometer. It was silky, smooth and refined but given character by the countless amount of ciggies that she and so many of her generation smoked. In 'The Big Sleep', herself and Bogie knock back a few Scotch Mist cocktails. So in honour of her, we'll be making and knocking back a few tonight!
- Put the crushed ice in a tumbler.
- Pour in the whisky.
- Squeeze your lemon twist over it to release it's oils.
