This week our resident mixologist Oisin Davis (of the Damson Diner) is recreating the Daiquiri cocktail from the 1974 classic 'The Godfather Part II', live on tonight's show.
If you would like to follow Oisin and Tom in making the cocktail, you will need the following:
- 50 ml of Havana Club Rum
- 4 fresh raspberries
- 15 ml lime juice
- 15 ml of sugar syrup
Oisin says, "The Godfather Part II is a truly superb film, an all time classic. And the scene between Fredo and Michael sitting outside in Havana is actually my favourite in the whole movie. The tension between the two brothers is phenomenal as Fredo doesn't want to admit that he assisted in the attempted assassination of Michael, even though we suspect he already knows. But the cocktail that Fredo drinks at that bit in the film, the Banana Daiquiri, is repulsive. How do you destroy a great rum? Lash some banana into it. How do you ruin a lovely piece of tropical fruit like a banana? Blend it with some rum. So I just couldn't bring myself to show you how to make a banana daiquiri. However, I would like to show you how to make a raspberry daiquiri as they taste wicked!"
Method
-Chill a martini glass with some ice. Muddle the fresh raspberries into the cocktail shaker with your lime juice for a few seconds. Lash in the rum and sugar syrup and some ice. Close up the shaker and shake it hard for 20 seconds. Remove the ice from the glass and double strain the shaker into it. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
