On tonight's programme Oisin Davis, of Great Irish Beverages, makes a special Negroni cocktail.
Oisin says, 'Camillo Negroni, the Italian Count whose love for making drinks a little more hardcore, was a man after my own heart. The story goes that he found himself in a cafe in Florence and felt like making his standard go to drink, The Americano, a little stiffer. His suggestion was to replace the soda water with gin. This substitution, he quickly found out, made for a very nice cocktail. So nice that it was apparently named after him.
It's very simply made as it is equal parts of three different beverages - gin, sweet vermouth and Campari. You can liven it up in lots of different ways, like adding herbs to garnish it, but the standard is either with an orange slice or a twist.
INGREDIENTS FOR 1:
- 20 ml Beefeater Gin
- 20 ml sweet Italian vermouth
- 20 ml Campari
METHOD:
Pour all ingredients into a shaker with some ice. Stir for ten seconds and pour into an iced tumbler. Garnish with an orange slice.
