This week Oisin Davis, of Great Irish Beverages, makes a special Mezcal Old Fashioned.
Oisin says, 'The great thing about learning how to make a few standard, classic cocktails, is that the spirits can easily be switched over. Take the Tom Collins for instance. It's made with gin. But replace the gin with tequila and you'll be drinking a José Collins. If you feel like a whiskey sour but only have vodka to hand, a vodka sour is still pretty darn tasty.
The same thinking can be applied for Old Fashioneds. They are normally mixed with whiskey but with other dark spirits, can be equally enjoyable. And seeing as we still have some of that wicked Mezcal that Rory brought home from Mexico, I thought it would be a bit of craic to make a Mezcal version.
INGREDIENTS
50 ml premium Mezcal
20 ml muscovado sugar syrup
3 dashes of Angostura bitters
METHOD
Chill a tumbler with some ice. Fill a shaker with ice and pour in the ingredients. Stir for twenty seconds and strain into the glass. Garnish with half an orange slice.
