This week Oisin Davis, of Great Irish Beverages, makes a special Wild Sloe Old Fashioned.
Oisin says, 'On Tuesday down in Midleton, we gave a wee gift to a group of excellent American bartenders who were down to learn what's what with Jameson Irish whiskey. We presented them all with a bottle of Jameson Wild Sloe Berry bitters, the latest addition to the Jameson family. 100kg of wild Irish sloes were hand picked before they were distilled with Jameson and then mixed with bitter ingredients like cinchona and wormwood.
To make deliciously tasty whiskey cocktails like the Old Fashioned or the Manhattan, you need some bitters to balance out sweetness and to add spice and depth to the drink. This Wild Sloe bitters does just that and it also delivers a massive kick of fruit from the delicious berry. And now for the first time, a bitters has come out that was distilled with Irish whiskey and wild Irish berries, thus giving people an opportunity for bartenders to serve an exceptionally Irish cocktail.
INGREDIENTS:
50 ml Jameson Black Barrel
15 ml Wexford honey syrup
2 dashes of Wild Sloe Berry bitters (or use Angostura bitters)
METHOD:
Place all ingredients in a shaker and stir with ice for twenty seconds. Strain into a tumbler with some ice in it. Garnish with an orange twist.
