Paul Lambert, of Kinara Kitchen in Dublin, creates an El Presidente cocktail on this evening's Tom Dunne Show.
He says, 'It was created for President Mario Garcia Menocal of Cuba (term of office: 1913-1921) by the bartenders at Floridita bar in Havana, after he asked them to create something that would rival the Manhattan cocktail that was growing in popularity in the US'.
Ingredients:
50mls Bacardi 8 year (or similar aged rum)
25mls sweet vermouth (e.g. Martini Rosso)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Method:
Pour all ingredients into a large glass filled with ice and stir to dilute. Strain in to a chilled coupette/martini glass. Garnish with orange zest.
