Prepare to be amazed by this unique take on an Old Fashioned.
Oisin says:
Are you one of the 55,000 people attending Electric Picnic this weekend? Then by all means, make your way to the Theatre of Food at 12 noon on Saturday! Yours truly will be hosting a drinks demo called,"Hangover Causes and Cures From Around The World."
I'll be serving some of the strangest liquors and hangover cures from such countries as Kazakstan and Korea. And I'll also be giving away free Bloody Molly cocktails to the first 25 in the door!
This is a wee taster of what to expect, something from Russia. An old school liquor and what they serve to treat themselves the day after imbibing.
THE HANGOVER CAUSE - Polugar "Bread Wine", also known as Russian white whiskey or a Rye Vodka. It is enjoyed with a little bread on the side. It hadn't been produced for 120 years until Boris Rodinov decided to bring it back to life using antique copper stills.
Ingredients:
- 50 ml Polugar
- 2 teaspoons of sugar syrup
- 3 dashes of Angostura
Method:
Place all ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir for twenty seconds and strain into an iced tumbler. Garnish with an orange twist.
THE HANGOVER CURE - "Kvass" - fermented stale rye bread drink. Enjoyed on its own or with some beets and pickles on the side.
Oisin will be making the cocktail live on the Tom Dunne Show, tonight from 10pm
