A documentary film entitled 'Nowhere is Home', about Dexys, screens on BBC 4 this Friday, March 20th. The director Paul Kelly joined Tom Dunne on Wednesday evening to discuss the process of filming Dexys live at Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End.

Kelly, a huge fan of the band, was overwhelmed by the opportunity to make a film about the group.

"I went along on the first night of the run and I was absolutely blown away. We quickly assembled a small team of friends to shoot it with cameras", he said.

Dexys played a nine date residency in the West End in 2013 and Kelly and his team were there to capture the highly theatrical performance. However, he insists he didn't have a preconceived notion of how the film would turn out as the project was essentially a commission from the band's frontman.

'The idea came from Kevin (Rowland). We didn't set out to make a film'.
