Former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes joined Tom Dunne on Tuesday evening for a session and to mark the release of his second solo album Matador.
It is now five years since Supergrass disbanded.
"It was always important for me to evolve and move forward, keep things fresh," he says.
Music is a major part of the singer's day to day life. He now has a studio in his home where he says he is constantly working on material.
"I got two or three tracks together and thought maybe I could get an album together," he says of the first solo endeavour.
"It's great to explore and experiment. I was able to dive into ideas that I'd been thinking about for a while and approaches, ways of recording, ways of writing".
Interestingly, Coombes appears to enjoy the freedom of working as a solo artist.
"It's the nature of being on your own. When you're in a band, everyone has to be happy, the session has to be flowing. Everyone has to be enthusiastic and excited. So, I guess when there are those ideas that need a little working through, the band can get bored. It's good being on your own to just explore those things".
Coombes plays Marlay Park on July 4th.
