Francis MacDonald, of Teenage Fanclub fame, joined Tom Dunne on Monday night to discuss his new album, a classical work entitled Music For String Quartet, Piano & Celeste.
Remarkably, MacDonald has no classical training as a musician, which makes the album an accomplishment of note. Having written music for television and film previously, he wanted to write a new 'calling card' for this type of work, while also composing a minimalist stand-alone piece of music.
But how did the Scotsman first get interested in music?
"I went to see the Police in Glasgow in 1979. The Cramps were supporting...it was just sensory overload. I wanted to drum," he explained.
