Ellie and Louise Macnamara of Heathers dropped in to Tom last week for a session and to discuss their latest album, ‘Kingdom’.

The first song they played was ‘Circular Road’.

Ellie and Louise have been bringing their music to a variety of locations around Europe and beyond.

“We’ve basically spent the last couple of months touring around the world and releasing it in different territories,” they said.

They started their tour in Ireland and then travelled to Germany, Poland, Austria, Canada, Malaysia and the States.

Ellie and Louise remarked that they particularly enjoyed the Malaysian leg of their trip.

“The people were so, so friendly. The culture and the atmosphere was amazing and playing gigs over there was really different,” they said. “I think in the past, cover bands have been really popular over there but it’s only in the past year or two that people have wanted to listen to original music . There were loads of people singing along to our songs, which we weren't expecting!”

How have they managed to reach an Asian audience?

“The internet has played a big part in it...people finding out about us online,” they informed Tom.

Heathers recently performed at South by Southwest in Texas.

“It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a couple of years now. This year was the right time for us because we were about to release ‘Kingdom’ over there,” they explained.

The girls also played ‘Listen Don’t Speak’, also from their album ‘Kingdom’.

Heathers play the Wavemasters Festival in Milltown Malbay on May 31st and Bulmers Live at Leopardstown on June 19th.
